Housing miracle
The sister missionaries who had a tree fall on their house last week are settled in a different apartment. I called the landlord to see if they had any empty apartments the girls could move into. She said no, they had a long waiting list. Then the very next day she called and said an apartment had opened up and we could have it. A man who was moving in right then changed his mind. Miracle! I wanted to cry.
Transfers
Crrrazy week as usual with transfers, but we got a lot accomplished. One thing I love watching is how the "seasoned" missionaries are so welcoming to the new ones. We made a couple of airport runs this week. I won't lie, one of the new missionaries I had in my car from the airport to the office was such a know-it-all that I began to worry his companion would kill him. Then when the assignments were made he got the nicest, calmest companion in the mission. I don't think he'll get killed after all. Whew! To top off a busy transfer week, I was in charge of the 6 week training lunch for 50 on Tuesday. It used to be Sister Matsuda's job. I inherited it. I kept it simple. It went great.
I just picked a few of my favorite pictures of transfers that depict what it's like.
New missionary luggage in the president's garage. They have to label their luggage with the proper transfer loop. |
Sunday Drive
Last Sunday we went exploring and found an old working mill. It was so interesting. We learned a lot of cool things. The water wheel pictured below actually runs the mill. And we got a referral! We are real missionaries! Woot Woot! The man that told us about the mill had moved here from Chicago. He lost his girlfriend and his job and he was sick of all the shootings so he asked if he could come home and live with his parents for awhile. He's 33, the assistant manager at the mill, and he tried going to church but didn't really like it. Well, we could help him with that. We sure were excited!!!!
The Sunday before we went to Atalanta Lake for a walk. We walked all around the lake. It was beautiful. We saw geese and turtles.
