Man, when it rains here it RAINS! It rained 12" in a 24-hour period earlier this week. Flash flood warnings! After the deluge we went for a bit of a drive/walk to assess the damage.

ZONE CONFERENCES
We just finished another round of zone conferences. We're using these conferences to deploy new cars that we're getting. So we had to drive separate cars to and from Springfield, MO, two hours away. There are two zones who meet in Springfield so we get a hotel room and spend the night.

MIRACLES
Miracle #3 - During the 11:00 am break at the Friday zone conference we noticed that there was no one there getting ready to feed the missionaries lunch. We were unable to reach the people who were supposed to be doing it. So we got with Sister Strong and came up with a quick lunch. My task was to call and order 15 pizzas. I did this and told them to have the "pizza dude" come to the back entrance of the building. In the meantime the people actually in charge of the lunch showed up. It's too late to cancel the pizza so I went out back of the church to wait for the pizza. The next thing I know it's already been delivered to a different door. I don't know who signed for it or who has the receipt. I MUST HAVE A RECEIPT! Oh well. It's no where to be found and no one knows who signed. So we just went back to the office and forget it. Later that afternoon I got this text from Sister Strong.
There you go! I feel especially blessed this week.
WE LOVE OUR NURSE
We are getting a new nurse. We will really miss Sister Wright. She is local here (a church service missionary) and so has been a huge help to all of us foreigners. This is a picture of her with a Sister who had to have surgery a week or so ago.
She really goes the extra mile!
TAKING CARE OF MISSIONARIES
Sister Johnson is always ordering things that the missionaries need. Once in a while she gets some positive feedback.
MULE JUMPING
This afternoon we went to the 31st Annual Pea Ridge Mule Jumping Championships in Pea Ridge.
This mule is 32 years old and an expert jumper. They don't run and jump. They have to come to a dead stop just before jumping. They started out with the crossbar at 39" high. We left after the third round when the bar was at 48". Some of the mules were so short that they couldn't even see over the barrier. It was a lot of fun.
MISSIONARY MOMENT
From our mission Facebook page.
We had few miracles bless us in connection with the zone conferences.
Miracle #1 - One of the cars that we had to bring back from Springfield had to sit for a day and a night at one of the churches there. When Carol and I went to pick it up to drive it home it wouldn't start. I sort of wanted to kick myself because I know that the TIWI's sometimes drain the batteries in the Malibu's when they are not driven for a while. After kicking for a minute I tried it again. Still wouldn't start. It's not a total disaster. We could just arrange to bring it back (remember it's two hours away) on the next transfer in a few weeks. Carol suggested that maybe we should say a prayer to see if that would help. So we sat in this dead car and I said a prayer. We know miracles happen here all the time and I said how much we appreciate this and, based on this experience, we asked if this car could please start and then left it in the Lord's hands. When we finished praying we took a deep breath and I pushed the button to start the car. It started right up! We shed a few tears as we remembered again how much Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are involved in their work. It was a nice little boost for us. A real tender mercy. It wasn't so important that the car started but we both kind of needed a lift.
Miracle #2 - On Thursday an Elder who is going home called to see if we could get a magnet for a missionary badge by the time he goes home next week. I said, "Not likely, Ross." (His name is not Ross.) I asked Carol if we might have one laying around the office and we did. So I put it with my stuff and took it home so that I could give it to him at the zone conference on Friday. When we got ready to leave on Friday morning I could not find the magnet anywhere. Ugh! So we headed for the office to get a few things done before the conference. When we got there I took a walk around the parking lot. In the only spot that was not occupied I saw this:
