Fireflies are out!
Sunday night we went on a walk quite late in the evening so it wouldn't be so hot, and we got to see tons of FIREFLIES! So fun! I go on a walk every night at about 8:30, even though it's still 90 degrees. About 8:45 all of the lawns are sparkling with the fireflies.
Tender Mercies
Sunday afternoon I was calling people to see if they would be willing to inspect a missionary apartment every 6 weeks. I called one man and after he said he could help I said, "I have 3 apartments in Fayetteville. You can do 1, 2, or 3. The person who used to be doing all 3 has moved." He said he was afraid he'd be overwhelmed if he did more than one. I said I'd be thrilled to have his help with one. Then about a half hour later he called me back and said,"The Spirit has been hounding me ever since I hung up. I'll do all three apartments." I thought that was so sweet. I told him sometimes I hate it when that happens, but I love it too!
Little Miracles
Each of us in the office is working on helping out a couple of missionaries that are struggling, just trying to watch out for them and help lift their spirits. Well, I feel like a complete loser because I've been so self-absorbed that I haven't really done anything. Besides gall bladder problems, I've had a major case of TMJ with the resulting pain and ear aches. I'm a train wreck. So now I'm feeling almost human again, I knew I need to get going. I filled up a box with red white and blue m&m's and got it ready for a missionary. We were going to deliver it to his apartment sometime. I don't know him very well and haven't had much to do with him, but guess what..... He came in the office today. He was thrilled when he discovered I had a package for him. He loved the patriotic m&m's. He sat down and visited with me for an hour. This was such a miracle! I am still in awe of it. God really cares about little things like me feeling like a schmuck and needing to do something kind for someone else.
Housing inspections
Tuesday we drove to Springdale, just a short distance, to do some apartment inspections. It was a very fun afternoon. The two girls in one apartment performed a Hawaiian dance for me while Elder Johnson fixed their towel rack. One of the girls is Marshallese and she used to work at the Polynesian Cultural Center. I had ordered them a room darkening drape for their bedroom because their window is right by a bright light outside. They were so proud of themselves and couldn't wait to show us that they had installed the rod and drape all by themselves.
In the Springdale Spanish apartment, one of the bathrooms was pretty cluttered and wasn't clean. I told the Elder I was going to call his mother and talk to her about it. He was so funny! He kept saying, No, No, please don't do that. Then in the Marshallese speaking apartment, after we were finished, they told us they were starving so we took them to lunch and had a blast. One of the Elders went to the bathroom and he was gone quite awhile. Elder Johnson said, I hope he didn't take his phone. One of the other Elders said, "Oh, you'd never have to worry about that with him." I thought that was a very high compliment.
Doctor
We have decided that we will try to cram every medical problem we can find into the 18 months we are here. Wednesday we went to the doctor. Chris's leg is still hurting like crazy. The Doctor sent us to the hospital for an ultrasound and Chris has a blood clot in his leg. He's been on blood thinners for years, but when we first got here he went to a doctor so he'd have a place to get his blood tested regularly. That doctor did some tests and told him he could go off the blood thinners. I guess he was wrong. So now we are waiting for the blood thinners to do their work so he'll be out of pain.
Chris has been sitting a lot with his leg up. We had a pretty uneventful Saturday. We went to the Farmers Market and bought some Salsa. We watched 3 movies. I ran some errands for a little while. We took a few of my clothes to the Bishop's house because we have some ladies that live in our ward boundaries that got displaced by the flooding and have absolutely nothing to wear.
